Information About Medicare Coverage
What Your Medicare Benefit Covers
Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) Covers:
Home Health Care (if you meet the conditions of coverage): Part-time skilled nursing care, physical therapy, speech-language therapy, home health aid services, durable medical equipment (such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, oxygen, and walkers) and supplies.
Hospice Care (if you meet the conditions of coverage):
Medical and support services from a Medicare-approved hospice, drugs for symptom control and pain relief, short-term respite care, care in a hospice facility, hospital, or nursing home when necessary, and other services not otherwise covered by Medicare (spiritual support and bereavement services.) Home care is also covered.
Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) Covers:
Home Health Care (if you meet the conditions of coverage):
Part-time skilled care, home health aide services, durable medical equipment when supplied by a home health agency while getting Medicare covered home health care, and other supplies. Medicare does NOT pay for the following home care services:
- 24 hour per day care at home
- Prescription drugs
- Meals delivered to your home
- Homemaker services like shopping, cleaning and laundry
- Personal care given by home health aides, like bathing, using the toilet or helping getting dressed when this is the ONLY care you need.
